EDC-D Integrates Clinical Research into Clinical Practice.
EDC-D's treatment team collaborates with faculty at the University of Colorado Denver, Department of Psychiatry and Children's Hospital Eating Disorder Treatment Program in order for our patients to become involved in research of critical value to our understanding and treatment of eating disorders. We are currently performing research studies that target two main areas of brain function, set-shifting and reward studies.
Set-Shifting Studies: determining how flexible the thought processes are in women with eating disorders compared to non-eating disordered women. The area of interest for this study involves neuropsychological function. In this study, we will investigate cognitive flexibility with two novel tasks with women with anorexia nervosa.
Reward Studies: determining how the brain reward system in eating disorders processes food and non-food stimuli. This study explores the hypothesis that individuals with eating disorders have unique brain reward pathways in response to food as well as non-food reward stimuli.
The research team consists of: Guido Frank, MD, The Children's Hospital of Denver; Leah Jappe, BS, Professional Research Assistant; Megan Shott, Research Assistant; Jennifer Hagman, MD, The Children's Hospital of Denver; Tamara Pryor, PhD, Eating Disorder Center of Denver; Michael Rollin, MD, Psychiatry Resident; and, Elizabeth Davis, PhD, Psychology Fellow.
